Description

In-person, Falkirk, Scotland

Host: Rhona Duffy

Date: 12-2pm, Friday, 18 December 2026

Price: £22 (includes use of studio and tools, guidance from Rhona, tea/coffee/snacks and the opportunity to buy materials)

Suitable for adults and aged 16+

Bring along your own mosaic project and enjoy two relaxed hours of creative time at Studio 164 Falkirk.

This is an open studio session rather than a taught class, so you can bring a project you have already started or begin something new. Work at your own pace, meet other mosaic makers, and get advice and guidance from Rhona.

Rhona will be working on her own mosaic project during the session too, so you can see what she’s making, pick up ideas and techniques, and ask questions as you work.

There is also a short, ten-minute Friday tip each week, when Rhona will share a simple mosaic technique, tool tip or other bit of useful advice. This is informal, and you’re welcome to continue working on your own project if you prefer.

What’s included:
– Two hours of studio time
– Use of communal tools and equipment
– Advice and guidance from Rhona
– A short weekly mosaic tip
– A speciality tea or coffee and a snack

Mosaic materials are not included, but you can buy a selection of tiles, glass, adhesive (small bags), and other supplies in the studio.

Places are limited to eight.

Please bring your own project and any materials you already have or you can plan your project at your first session.

Beginners welcome.

About your tutor

Rhona Duffy is a picassiette mosaic artist who uses broken pieces of pottery, glass, bone china, and ceramics, often incorporating recycled items in her work. She has a contemporary take on mosaic, while also appreciating the classical rules – she particularly enjoys pushing the boundaries of the Roman technique opus sectile (using larger pieces of material to produce a pattern). Her work is inspired by art nouveau, picassiette, music and nature. Rhona’s work is an antidote to the challenges facing us in today’s world, which aims to bring peace and joy to both herself, as she creates, and its viewers. She has an arts degree in English and philosophy, and a master’s degree in journalism. She launched the international magazine Mosaic & Glass in 2022. In addition, she volunteers at her son’s school, introducing him and his classmates to mosaic and glass. Rhona has taught regularly at the Wider Access to School Project in Denny – a charity providing subsidised higher education to adult learners in the local community – and the Central Scotland School of Craft in Dunblane for several years. She now teaches mainly at Studio 164 Falkirk. Her work is available to buy at Made in Stirling. Originally from Dublin, Rhona has lived in Scotland for over 30 years. Check out some of her work below.
