Suitable for adults and aged 16+
In this one-day workshop, you’ll create a mixed-media mosaic wreath using stained glass, Italian smalti and mosaic tiles. You can choose from a range of glass colours for the flower – you could make a ponsietta if you are fond of the festive season or one to enjoy all year round! You’ll enjoy immersing yourself in the flow of mosaic creation as you create the basket weave effect. You’ll leave with a timeless and durable mosaic wreath to enjoy in your own home for years to come – or you might like to gift it to a loved one.
In this hands-on workshop, you’ll also learn about materials suitable for exterior mosaics plus which tools – and how to use them – to cut mosaic and glass. Rhona will also teach you how to use tile adhesive (thinset) to adhere your mosaic in a way that eliminates the need for grout.
This workshop is suitable for both beginners and intermediate levels. So whether you’re brand new to mosaics, or if you’ve been to a previous workshop and would like to further develop your skills, you’re very welcome. It’s a relaxed atmosphere where, not only will you develop or hone your mosaic skills, but you’ll also have an enjoyable day out!

- This workshop is suitable for over age 16s.

- In case of insufficient registrations, the workshop will be cancelled and you’ll get a refund of your workshop fee. We do expect this to go ahead though.
- If you wish to cancel your place, a refund (minus bank charges) will only be possible if someone else takes your place.
About your tutor
Rhona Duffy creates a contemporary take on the ancient art form of mosaic, while also appreciating the classical rules. She enjoys pushing the boundaries of the Roman technique opus sectile (using larger pieces of material to produce a pattern). Her work is inspired by art nouveau, picassiette, music and nature. She uses mixed media, including glass tiles, stained glass, marble, smalti and bone china. Rhona’s work is an escape from the challenges of life and the issues facing us in today’s world – it’s an antidote to bring joy to both herself, as she creates, and its viewers. She has an arts degree in English and philosophy, and a master’s degree in journalism. She launched the international magazine Mosaic & Glass in 2022. In addition, she volunteers at her son’s school, introducing him and his classmates to mosaic and glass. Rhona also teaches regularly in Central Scotland, including at Wider Access to School Project in Denny – a charity providing subsidised higher education to adult learners in the local community. Our venue Studio 164 is located at 164 Grahams Road, Falkirk FK2 7BY, United Kingdom. It’s a five-minute walk from Grahamston Station and there is a free car park around the corner at 74 Russel Street (FK2 7HP) on the junction of Gowan Street.
It offers an ideal setting for mosaic and glass enthusiasts to immerse yourselves in hands-on learning in a welcoming and well-equipped environment. There are opportunities for learners, whatever your skill level – from beginner to advance – to learn from local creatives and visiting tutors.
With plenty of accommodation options and eateries nearby, students can easily settle in for multi-day workshops, and its central location makes it a convenient gateway for exploring Scotland’s rich cultural and scenic attractions.
