Discover the art of glass fusing in this hands-on workshop. Learn the essential techniques of cutting, layering, and fusing glass to create beautiful, one-of-a-kind pieces. Guided by Rhona Duffy, you’ll explore the properties of glass, experiment with colour and texture, learn how to cut glass, and design two or three small projects, such as sun catchers, tiles, coasters, drink stirrers or magnets. Rhona also enjoys creating glass-fused pieces to incorporate into her mosaic work, so you can focus on creating some pieces to use in your own mosaics after the workshop if you’re a mosaic artist too.

With all materials and tools provided, this workshop offers a relaxed and creative environment to ignite your artistic side. Perfect for anyone curious about glass art, this a fun and inspiring experience! It’s a relaxed atmosphere where not only will you develop your glass fusing skills, but you’ll also have an enjoyable day out.

This workshop is suitable for complete beginners.

Your pieces will need to be fired in the kiln and you can collect them a few days later, or we can post them out to you for a small extra charge to cover postage/packing.

This is also a great workshop for team building and private parties – if you’d like to book for a private event, contact Rhona at rhonaduffy@mosaicandglass.com

About your tutor

Rhona Duffy is a picassiette mosaic artist who uses broken pieces of pottery, glass, bone china, and ceramics, often incorporating recycled items in her work. She has a contemporary take on mosaic, while also appreciating the classical rules – she particularly enjoys pushing the boundaries of the Roman technique opus sectile (using larger pieces of material to produce a pattern) and she has recently begun to create and include glass-fused pieces into her work to enhance this. Her work is inspired by art nouveau, picassiette, music and nature. Rhona’s work is an antidote to the challenges facing us in today’s world, which aims to bring peace and joy to both herself, as she creates, and its viewers. She has an arts degree in English and philosophy, and a master’s degree in journalism. She launched the international magazine Mosaic & Glass in 2022. In addition, she volunteers at her son’s school, introducing him and his classmates to mosaic and glass. Rhona has taught regularly at the Wider Access to School Project in Denny – a charity providing subsidised higher education to adult learners in the local community – and the Central Scotland School of Craft in Dunblane for several years. She now teaches mainly at Studio 164 Falkirk. Her work is available to buy at Made in Stirling. Originally from Dublin, Rhona has lived in Scotland for over 30 years. Check out some of her work below.
